Land Acknowledgement

The lands that we now call Illinois are the ancestral homelands of many Tribal Nations including: the people of the Council of the Three Fires: the Ojibwe, Bodéwadmi (Potawatomi), and Odawa, the Peoria, Kaskaskia, Piankashaw, Wea, Miami, Mascoutin, Sac and Fox, Mesquaki, Kickapoo, Ho-Chunk, Menominee, and Chickasaw Nations. We acknowledge all Native peoples who came before us and who continue to contribute to our State. We are committed to promoting Native and Indigenous cultural heritage.
